Department of Commerce, Cotton University celebrates Commerce Day on 30 May, 2024

The Department of Commerce, Cotton University celebrated Commerce Day on 30 May, 2024 to commemorate the death anniversary of Saud Bholanath Barooah. The celebrations were organised in association with the Guwahati Branch of Indian Accounting Association. The event started with a Welcome Address by Dr. Saurabhi Borthakur, Head, Department of Commerce, Cotton University which was followed by rich floral tributes to the doyen by the dignitaries present in the event. Prof. Sujit Sikidar, President of Indian Accounting Association, Guwahati Branch enlightened the audience with a brief story on the life of the great luminary. Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Cotton University, delivered the inaugural address and announced the launch of the post graduate degree in Commerce from the academic session 2024-25. Prof. Prashanta Sharma, Head, Department of Commerce, Gauhati University delivered the keynote address on the theme of the event “Unleashing the Potential of Commerce in the Emerging Global Landscape”. Registrar of Cotton University, Dr. Arindam Garg gave the concluding remarks and thanked the Department of Commerce for organising this important programme. The event also witnessed the plantation of a red sandalwood sapling at the University campus to mark the launch of the post graduate programme in Commerce at the historic Cotton University.
The Academic Registrar, Cotton University, Professors, Deans of various Faculties, Heads of the Departments and Centres of Cotton University, Director, Students Welfare, Cotton University, faculty members, research scholars and officials of Cotton University graced this significant event. Other notable dignitaries present at the event were Former Head & Dean, Faculty of Commerce, Gauhati University Prof. (Retd.) Nayan Barua, Former Principal of Gauhati Commerce College Dr. Homeswar Kalita, Principal of R. G. Baruah College Dr. Pranjit Kr. Nath,Vice-Principal of K.C. Das Commerce College Dr. Bhababhuti Sharma, General Secretary of Indian Accounting Association, Guwahati Branch Mr. Panchanan Barman. The event ended with a formal vote of thanks by Mr. Risav Nath, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Cotton University.
