Dr. Abinash Mandal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce at Cotton University, Guwahati. His work is driven by a simple but important question: how can organisations detect fraud early and prevent it effectively? He pursued this question in his Ph.D. at Pondicherry University, where he examined practising auditors’ perspectives on detecting and preventing occupational fraud. He also holds a Master of Commerce in Accounting and Taxation from Pondicherry University and has qualified the UGC NET-JRF in Commerce. Before entering academia, he spent three years as an Accounts Assistant at the District Legal Services Authority, an experience that continues to shape his practical approach to teaching. He has also taught commerce students at Pondicherry University through both regular and distance education programmes.

His research interests include forensic accounting, occupational fraud, fraud theories and fraud risk management. His work has been published in reputed Scopus-indexed and ABDC-ranked journals, and he has presented at international conferences hosted by institutions such as IIM Indore, IIM Bodh Gaya and IIT Delhi. He has also completed ten peer reviews for Scopus-indexed journals. A member of the Indian Accounting Association, he is committed to promoting accountability, ethical business practice and research-informed learning through his teaching and academic guidance.
